I know that this is something that has been asked for many times by SU users. You can download a Podcast or the Learning Tutorials, (approx 200MB +) watch, and then answer the 20 or so questions. At the end you will recieve a certificate with your result. Ofcourse,.. if you think your clever (like me) you'll skip watching the video until after youve done the multi-choice questions and get your certificate/s straight away. about before buying any rendering software for use in Google SketchUp. The video is simply meant to get people, both beginners and professionals, to think about the capabilities of different renderers before making any purchase.

The video points out different parts of a model made using sketchUp that any good rendering software should be able to render. The video also includes a link so that a user can download the same model from the video and test it out on a renderer of their choice. If their renderer does not render the model correctly, then maybe they should try another piece rendering software.

The new design distributes the stiffness vertically throughout the height of the building, van de Lindt said, to reduce the chance of a soft-story collapse.

AutoCAD Viewers

Autodesk DWG TrueView 2010 is a free DWG viewer.

It is basically a cut down version of full AutoCAD so you can be sure that it displays, plots, measures and converts your DWG and DXF files exactly the same way as AutoCAD. The downside of this is that the installer is huge -180MB, and also running TrueView takes quite a lot resources.

If you prefer lightweight applications and lightweight data, you will like Autodesk Design Review 2010. This a viewer for DWF and DWFx design files which can be easily published from any Windows application. And not only a viewer. In Design Review you can print, measure and first of all markup (redline) CAD data. And the markups can be brought back into AutoCAD. Version 2010 introduces ribbons and the ability to open DWG, PDF, DGN and JT files. DWG files are not viewed directly but they are first converted to DWF (in the background, with DWG
TrueView).

The added support for PDFs is quite surprising but it goes in line with the PDF support added in AutoCAD 2010. You can download these two new applications from;

If you're a fan of Sketchup for creating woodworking models, then the next obvious step is to use Sketchup to help you create cutlists and layouts. Sketchup plugin Cutlist 4.0 does just that. CutList 4.0 sketchup plugin helps you determine how much of each material you need to produce your design, taking into account nominal sized lumber with allowances for finishing to final size. Then it goes one further and lays out all of the pieces on boards or sheet good sizes of your hoosing. Have you ever wondered how accurate the shading is within SketchUp?
This is what I did....
I made a simple house in SU,
I set up the Latitude and Longitude within SU to represent the area in which I live, Wellington, NZ and then added four scenes, and set the dates and times for each scene being midday 28Mar/28June/28Sep/28Sep.
I then compared the angles shown on the sun dial charts and worked out the distance the shadow would cast at the above times using trig'.
I then measured the angles and distances on the SU model at the variuos times to see if the results where the same as the sun dial charts.
Believe it not the accuracy was down to 0.01mm, which was good enough for me. This was measured on each of the four days.
If you decide to make your own, you can keep adding to it different times of the day (tip: add text layers to bring up the dates and times) and make a new scene, then save it as a template within SU eg: "Where I live"_Template.skp

Photo Editing software (a free application which links directly with LinkedIn and also works with Googles Picasa and other applications). This one is definately worth a try.

Document sharing online.

Does anyone use or know of any websites that allow the user to freely load & distribute their company files? Can you recommend one, that is safe.

If you havent checked out the new features of Adobe.com you must, (see links below)
At the moment I know of 4 and my vote goes to Acrobat, then Skydrive, then google docs, then LinkedIn in that order;

An easy-to-use and free tool for batch resizing of JPG pictures and photos.
How to use it?

Download PhotoResize400.exe and place it on your desktop.

Drag and drop JPG files or folders with JPG files on the application icon.
The tool will resize JPG images and save them next to the originals.

Names of the new pictures will be based on the original names, with a suffix indicating their size. For example, the resized version of MyPhoto.jpg will be called MyPhoto-400.jpg, where the number 400 indicates the size of the picture.
